My debut collection, FORM/FORMALITY explores the nature of formal clothing, it’s accomplishments as well as flaws. The collection revolves around the idea of dissecting clothing that was made for a specific purpose and working out how its form communicates values. Then through alterations, the clothing then either gets exaggerated or reimagined from its original form.

FACADE FORMAL SHOES
An exploration behind the contradictory nature of form and function.
The facades highlight the use of formal clothing as a visual symbol while the trainers underneath provide comfort through its design focusing on function over visuals.

CORRUGATED BLAZER
A visualisation of the subjectivity of expectations of beauty in clothing, where an often avoided result of creasing is purposely created to highlighted the potential beauty in the form of clothing that most attempt to fix due to expectations of formality.

BASQUE BLAZER
Following the running theme of questioning formality, the Basque blazer pushes the limits of the dilemma of formal attire’s relationship between form over function.
By distorting the piece into an unconventional shape, the blazer is a visualisation of the exaggerations of formal clothing with the wide chest and shoulders, complimented by the tucked sleeves that accentuate the silhouette.

MANTLE GOWN
An exploration of the dramatical nature of formality, the mantle gown is a representation of the grandeur of formal clothing, a celebration of the beauty it can create.

CRESCENT DRESS
As the name suggests, the dress creates form through sculpting the negative space around it, the arched, structured shoulders carve into the invisible form.
this communicates the idea of questioning form, is the tangible structure dominant, or does it merely shape the space surrounding it?
