A couple of weeks ago I returned to London to see old friends and view the latest collections from various fashion houses in Mayfair. However, after seeing countless garments I became fatigued and decided to go to a gallery to cleanse my palate. What I saw there was nothing short of breath-taking.

This is Erwin Wurm’s work. His latest work explores the relationship between clothes and the body, and views clothes as our second skin that separates our bodies from the outside world. The clothes represent a shell, where a human should be, but isn’t, shedding light on the concept of a world void of humanity.
This exhibition couldn’t have come at a better time for me as it reminded me of the boundless possibilities of fashion, an artform that can be used to commentate on certain ideas as well as emotions.
As mentioned in an earlier blog, it is very easy to feel dizzy in the world of fashion, with so many trends passing by and garments being made. What I’m learning is that the most successful designers are never in an echo chamber. They will always venture away from the noise and look in places no one has before in order to bring their own unique voice back to their clothing. So if you ever feel overwhelmed by all of the buzz, step back, go somewhere else, and eventually you will retrace your steps with something new to bring to the cutting table.
